Doodle4Google was a national art competition which was held within schools between the ages of Year 1 to Year 10, where school children had to do their own interpretation of the Google logo in the theme of “My Australia’. Xphyr was asked to implement an awards ceremony to present the State and National Winners with prizes, also in the My Australia theme.

The 32 finalists, from every state/territory in Australia, were flown into Sydney, had a trip over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, a tour of the Google offices (including a ‘Doodling’ workshop from legendary Google Doodle master, Dennis Hwang), and an abundance of activities in which to participate in at Darling Harbour. Here, they were joined by local schools along to support the event and experienced a live science show, a reptile show, face painting, urban art workshop as well as participating in the finalist ceremony, hosted by Tim Bailey.

After the ceremony the finalists were invited by Tim Bailey to take part in his live weather cross on the Channel Ten News – with an audience of 1 million viewers.

Janelle San Juan from Victoria was the overall winner and her Doodle was displayed on the Google Australia home page on Australia Day, January 26th 2008. Congratulations Janelle, and to all those creative young people who submitted over 2000 entries into the competition.
